What Brinescale keeps, and what it does not
Last changed 2026-10-18 (v1.1.0).
The calculators
The Cure Calculator, Recipe Check and Drying Tracker store nothing. Their inputs travel in the page address, so, like any page address, they appear in the web server's access log (see below).
Your Batch Book
- A Batch Book is made only when you ask for one. It has no account, name or email address. It opens with a random private key; Brinescale stores only a one-way fingerprint (SHA-256) of that key, so the key itself cannot be read back from the database.
- It holds what you put in it: batch names, the calculator inputs, dates, status, notes and weigh-ins, plus when the book was made and last opened.
- The key is kept in a cookie (
__Host-bsc_book) on your browser so you stay in your book, and in the link you copy. The link is shown once, when the book is made, and never again. "Leave this book" removes the cookie; "Delete this Batch Book" removes the book and everything in it. - A book nobody opens for 400 days is deleted automatically, unless it has a running Brinescale Pass.
Other things the site keeps
- A security cookie for forms (
__Host-bsc_csrf), which stops other sites from submitting forms in your name. - Rate counters: to stop abuse, the site counts some actions per day (for example new books per address). The address is stored only as a salted one-way fingerprint, and the counters are deleted after two days.
- The web server's access log (address, time, page address, browser), kept for security and deleted on a rolling schedule.
- Backups: the database is copied every night inside the site's own hosting account (the newest 14 are kept), and the whole server is backed up four times a week to WeldonPC's backup storage, where the 14 most recent copies (about three and a half weeks) are kept.
No analytics service, no AI service, no email: Brinescale sends no messages at all.
Advertising
Public pages on this site (not your Batch Book) show one banner ad from AdEngine (adengine.us), the small ad network run by WeldonPC, the company behind this site. For now the ads are for WeldonPC's own services.
To show an ad, your browser loads a script from adengine.us, asks it for one banner, loads the banner image, and reports once that the page was viewed and once that the banner was shown. Like any website, adengine.us receives your IP address, your browser type and the address of this site with those requests.
- No cookies, no profile. AdEngine sets no cookies, gives you no ID and does not track you from site to site.
- How your IP address is used. adengine.us looks up the approximate city for your IP address in a location database kept on its own server (nothing is sent to anyone else), so that ads meant for one area are shown only there. It also uses the address to count each ad view or click only once and to leave out robots and WeldonPC's own office traffic. The address is not stored with the counts; the temporary entries made from it expire within six hours and are cleared from the server within two days.
- What is kept. Daily totals only: page views for this site, and views and clicks for each ad. The adengine.us web server also keeps a standard access log (IP address, time, address requested, referring site, browser) for security; it is deleted on a rolling schedule.
- Clicking an ad passes through adengine.us, which counts the click, and then opens the advertiser's site, which has its own privacy policy.
- Nothing about you is sold or shared.
The only outside service the pages load is the adengine.us ad described here; fonts and everything else come from opencure.net itself.
Payments
There is no checkout yet (free during preview). When there is, payment will be handled by PayPal; Brinescale will keep only the PayPal subscription reference, the plan and its end date, never card details.
